National Honours For Local Initiative

Living Clean are among the top winners in this year’s National Green Apple Environment Awards. They won the Green Apple Award, top prize in the Service Industries Category.

Winners were presented with their trophies at the Tower of London by David Bellamy, Britain’s leading environmental personality. He was assisted in the prizegiving by Detective Sergeant Mel Moore, winner of the National Star for a Day competition.

The event was also supported by tree appeal, who have pledged to plant trees in the names of all the winners to make the function carbon free.

Commenting on the winning entry, the Green Apple Award judges said “What started as a push for a healthier home has turned into the Living Clean service employing 20 staff across two sites in Norfolk. A domestic cleaning service that specialises in using non-chemical cleaning products and methods, they are changing the perceptions of hundreds of households and reducing pollution in the water course.”

This is the twelfth year of the Green Apple Awards, now established as one of the biggest environmental award schemes in the world.

The organisers invite entries from any council , company , community or country that is making an effort to protect or enhance the environment, with categories to cover every sector of commerce, industry, groups and local government. There were almost 1,000 entries this year.

The Green Apple Awards are organised by The Green Organisation, supported by the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Municipal Journal and numerous other official bodies.

The Green Organisation is an independent, non political, non activist, non profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practise around the world.

National Organiser Roger Wolens commented: "This winning paper will now be published with a selection of others in Green Heroes, the international work of reference on environmental best practise that enables many thousands around the world to learn and benefit from the achievements of our winners

“Our objective is not only to recognise and publicise various environmental endeavours, but also to help others to follow those examples. Anyone can visit the greenorganisation.info website to learn from the environmental experiences of previous winners”
